Bıçak (Central Asia)

Bichaq with Scabbard Front

Code NC05

A Bıçak (Bichaq) from Central Asia, late 20th C.

The knife is of characteristic form. The Bichaq is the traditional dagger of the Muslim people in Central Asia in  present day Uzbekistan.

The blade is blackened with slightly single upward curving edge. The blade is sturdy, hand forged steel blade cut with full length slender fuller along the spine and adorned on one the face of the blade with brass inlaid ornament, the other side of the blade is engraved with the makers mark.

A slender hilt formed of silver alloy casing engraved and inlaid with various colors. The shape of the hilt has a stronger Ottoman influence than other bichaq in my collection.

In its original tooled leather scabbard.
