AN52 Al Mahri Khanjar

Code AN52

This is a very rare khanjar dagger from the Al Mahri region of Arabia circa late 19th century. It is one of the scarcest forms of Peninsular Arab dagger, seldom found in collections. The shape is similar to the shafra but overall this type of khanjar is much larger. This example has an overall length of 41 cm. The dagger is mounted entirely in filigreed silver, with the scabbard wrought of filigreed silver en suite with the hilt. Like the scabbards of jambiyas, this scabbard is decorated on one side only. The hilt is horn and the blade broad and recurved with a single edge.
