Kachin Dao

Kachin dha from Burma with “Running Tiger” maker mark.

Code SA14

A dao from the Kachin people in northern Burma with the unique “Running Tiger” mark on the blade forte (see below).  The hilt is wrapped well in fine rattan fiber. The sword has a unique, squared tip that is not very sharp so this weapon is not suitable for a stabbing attack.

The blades with the running tiger mark are made by Achang and Hussa smiths in Yunnan, a province of China that borders Burma. The mark carries the meaning, "sword make tiger run away".
