Tombak Puton

Tombak Puton

Code IN85

A Javanese tombak, classification is Puton, pamor m’rambut with a batu lapak at the blade base. Batu lapak is considered to be a royal pamor with powerful talismanic powers, including providing wealth, absence of need, a “superfluity” of beautiful women, and a harmonious household. Sounds royal to me!

The scabbard is carved from a single piece of burl teak with a beautiful pattern. The landeyan (shaft) is a display shaft of Javanese sandalwood and it is fitted with gilt tunjung and sopal. It is fair to say that Javanese tombak with original shafts are unknown, except for a very few museum displays. Original shafts for these spears were very long.

Blade length: 9.5” (242mm)
Overall length (including shaft): 39.5” (1M)
