A rare parang latok (latok, latok buku, parang pathi) of the Land Dyak people from Kalimantan, circa 19th century.

This large, heavy two-handed sword is from Kalimantan (Borneo), Indonesia. It can be used for timber felling and agricultural activities as well as warfare. The parang latok has also been used for execution. The parang latok is also found in Malaysia

The parang latok is distinguished by a heavy blade that bends at an obtuse angle relative to the hilt. The blade is heavier and wider towards the point. The hilt is hardwood, secured to the blade with wire at the grip and a gum/resin ferrule.. 

Dimensions: Blade length 18" (457mm) overall length 25.75" (653mm)

This parang latok was previously in the collection of A. Maisley. It was in his possession for nearly 70 years, having been collected originally by his family between 1920 and 1940.
