Code IN82

This is the sangit sword of the Murut people, northern Borneo. Other names include pakarang kalimantan and murut padeng. This sword is quite rare to find.

The sword shows influence of the Moro Kris binding technique.

There is numeric tabular talisman engraved on the top of the blade.

The blade is heavy, tapering in thickness distally from hilt to tip. On both sides of the blade the forte is engraved in a floral pattern.

The Murut are hill people, one of the Dayak ethnic groups. They are found in the sparsely populated Temburong district. The Murut once supplied military force to the Sultans of Brunei. They are now the least numerous of the indigenous ethnic groups of Indonesian Borneo. The Murut were historically headhunters living in longhouse settlements on hilltops. They have gradually been displaced into the interior of Kalimantan by settlers.
