The mark of a running tiger is found on blades made by the Kachin and Achang people in the region of Hussa (Husa), Yunnan, a province of China bordering Burma. It is an amulet, or rune, thought to have magical power that means "this sword is more powerful than the tiger." It is also an encouragement to the wielder of the sword to, "face the tiger with this sword and he will run away". Many smiths use this mark but virtually all such blades originate in Yunnan province.
The mark is similar in meaning to one that depicts a gun cut in half. In that case, the mark means "this sword is more powerful than the gun."
