This is a rencong (rentcong, rentjong, rintjong rentjoeng, reuncong) from the Northern Sumatra, possibly of the Gayo Aceh. The rencong is carried on the left hand side, inserted between the body and girdle. As with krisses, people attribute mystical powers to rencongs. The rencong is still worn during traditional ceremonies.
The hilt is green buffalo horn in the traditional shape called "hulu meucugek". The bolster is faceted. This is a younger example
The overall length is approximately 34 cm.
