Code: AC3
A large knife, typical of Mali and nearby West African regions such as Senegal. The tassels on the sheath are very characteristic of this region. This knife probably dates from the late 1800’s to early 1900’s although its form has remained unchanged for hundreds of years. The hilt is unusual and may reflect the use of a French or German blade from colonial occupations in that time period. The knife is provisionally identified as Mandinka (Mandingo).
