Paiwan Knife with Clipped Point

CH11 Paiwan Knife with Clipped Point

Code CH11

A large Paiwan knife with an upswept and clipped blade tip. This style was probably very appealing to Vietnam-era GIs on R&R in Taiwan.

The scabbard features a design with faces.  These represent human heads; headhunting was widespread among the aboriginal tribes of Taiwan.  As in other cultures in the region, heads taken in raids were of great ritual benefit for the warrior and his village.
