IP19 Indo-Persian Qajar Janbiya

Code: IP19

This is a janbiya dating from the Qajar dynasty era of Persia. The First Qajar era was 1786 to 1797, under Agha Mohammad Shah. The most recent and last Qajar era dated 1909 to 1925 under Ahmad Sha. The silver inlay decoration on the ricasso, depicting two peacocks, is definitive for Qajar identification.

The knife blade is laminated steel. The blade and hilt are decorated with silver inlay. The total length is 15 inches.  The blade, sharp on both sides, is decorated in a floral pattern and features the two peacocks.

The slightly offset blade in the handle may represent wear or damage. What is puzzling is that another collector has a very similar Qajar-era janbiya with exactly the same offset to the blade!
