Bedok Cepot

Previous

A golok depot knife from Java, Indonesia

Code: IN2

This is a Bedok/Cepot (Bedog), from Java, of Sunda origin. Bedok is a Sundanese term, and Cepot is Panawakan.

It is only slightly larger than hand-size in length. Like its cousin, the Bendo, it is a small axe mainly used for household chores, food preparation, and harvesting the aren palm.  The short, broad and heavy blade serves this purpose well.  Many Bedok, including this one, have a finely carved hilt made of wood or sometimes bone.
