A short sword typical of medieval Spain.  This is a reproduction by Bermejo, one of the finest sword makers in Spain today. Literally, the name translates as "knife of the ring". The type is known as a  main-gauche (left hand). It was used mainly to assist in parrying incoming thrusts, while the dominant hand wields a sword.  Used with skill, the oversized bars on the guard could be used to trap an oppenent's blade, leaving them open to a counter-strike.
