Hulu Puntung (also Hulu Gerepung, Hulu Geureupong, Oelee Geureupiong, Oeloe Gerepong, Oelee Poentong, Oeloe Poentong, Soekel Gerpong, Sukul Gerpong). This hilt has a cut on the pommel end is carved either smooth or with sheet-like ornaments. It resembles a fern opening in the spring from the forest floor. One finds this type often on rencong from northern Sumatra. Also referred to as floral, or representing vines.
