The jimbaya (jinbaya) measures 12 1/4 inch long. It has a brass handle and a brass scabbard. The sword, a curved nimcha-derivative meant for mainly for ceremonial purposes, measures 24 inches long. It has a wood hilt large enough for two hands, with brass inlays and the scabard is wood with brass inlays. The blade, thick and with a distal taper is very sharp and is engraved with a fancy design similar to that found on a flyssa.
The man, a European, is pictured wearing these weapons (c. late 19th century).
The term "Desert wallah" was sometimes used by westerners living in the area to refer to wealthy visitors who would visit for a short time so they could have an "adventure" and stories to tell back in the salons at home.
